WHY WATERPROOFING YOUR SOCAL HOME IS VITAL FOR YOUR HOME AND YOUR HEALTH

We are lucky here in SoCal to have so much sunny and mild weather. It’s probably a big reason
why so many of us choose to live here! But we do have a rainy winter season, and we need to
be ready for that, or our homes can be damaged over time.

Why is waterproofing our homes so important?

Without proper drainage and protection,
water flows through the soil and reaches the parts of the walls of our homes that are below the
ground level. Over time, this will create problems…dampness, mold, rot and some serious
damage to the structure of your home.

What are the health hazards of exposure to mold?

Large amounts of mold, when inhaled by people can cause the following health hazards, especially if there is an active growth where
they live or work:

1) Respiratory problems and infections,

2) Allergy and hypersensitivity,
triggering allergic reactions,

throat, worsening of asthma symptoms.

What areas of my home need to be waterproofed? Even though most SoCal homes don’t have
basements, waterproofing the foundation and even the crawlspace is important.
Decks and balconies need particular attention to maintain their structural integrity and safety.
Proper drainage off of these areas keeps water from pooling, which increases safety and also
prevents water from leaking into underlying rooms or areas. And again, making sure water
drains properly helps prevent the growth of mold.
Waterproofed areas are easier to clean, and with regular relatively simple maintenance, can
remain safe for many years.

What can I do? Prevention is always better than the cure. Aside from avoiding all the perils,
you’re likely to save a lot of money and headache if you prevent water damage in the first
place. But if you already have a situation, acting fast is the best way to prevent further damage.
The longer you wait, the worse it will become…more mold, rotting wood and physical damage
to your home.
